Cancer Specific Support Groups & Programs

At The Gathering Place, we meet participants wherever they are on their cancer journey starting at diagnosis. Some programs offered at TGP are available to people with specific types of cancer.

Breast

Exercise

Comprehensive strength, endurance, balance, and flexibility routine for those in cancer treatment or dealing with side effects from treatment. Health and fitness screening required before attending any movement class.

Please consult your physician before beginning this, or any exercise program. As with any exercise program, if at any point you begin to feel faint, dizzy or have physical discomfort, you should stop immediately. Information is for educational purposes only.

Nutrition

Learn how to navigate Rebecca Katz’s online Cancer Fighting Kitchen course to gain tips on healthy eating and cooking through treatment and beyond. Facilitator: Stephanie Hopkins, MS, RDN, LD

Cancer Specific Support Groups

Monthly support group for those diagnosed with breast cancer. Facilitator: Andrea Sonnie, LISW-S, OSW-C

Gynecological

Our monthly support group is a place for others sharing a similar gynecological or reproductive cancer experience. This group discusses available treatment options and experiences, plus how to manage side effects including fatigue, menopausal symptoms, neuropathy, changes in weight, body image, sexual health, and benefits of a pelvic floor specialist.

Myeloma

This support group takes place every other month and led by our licensed social worker. As a participant navigates their treatment, our group provides a space where people can share similar experiences, ways of coping and hear about great resources from professionals.

Oral, Head & Neck

Meeting monthly, our OHN peer-to-peer support groups provides a safe environment for individuals to connect with others experiencing or have experienced a similar diagnosis and treatment;.

Pancreatic

Meeting the 4th Monday of every month, our pancreatic support group provides a network for individuals and caregivers. This support group is a safe place to cope with the emotional and physical aspects by providing a space to share feelings, experiences and resources.

Prostate

Our monthly Prostate Partners offers an opportunity for men diagnosed with prostate cancer to learn about treatment options, as well as gain support from talking with other men. Specialists in various fields provide education and information on cutting edge therapies and tools for coping. Prostate Partners offers a safe, comfortable environment for men and their families to address issues regarding diagnosis and treatment.
